ASTM A105 forged fittings are commonly used in refinery, petrochemical and utility piping systems for ambient and elevated temperature service. ASTM A350 LF2 forged fittings are generally selected for low-temperature carbon steel piping where notch toughness at lower temperatures is required. ASTM A105N Carbon Steel Forged Fittings are manufactured from normalised ASTM A105 material. The normalising treatment helps improve uniformity in the microstructure and can provide better toughness and consistency for certain service conditions. Difference Between ASTM A105, A105N, A350 LF2 and A694 Forged Fittings
ASTM A105, ASTM A105N, ASTM A350 LF2 and ASTM A694 are all carbon steel forging grades used for forged fittings, but they are selected for different service conditions and project requirements.
ASTM A105 forged fittings are commonly used for general carbon steel pressure piping applications. They are widely specified for refinery, petrochemical, utility and industrial piping systems operating at ambient or moderately elevated temperatures. ASTM A105 is one of the most common material grades for carbon steel socket weld and threaded forged fittings.
ASTM A105N forged fittings are produced from normalised ASTM A105 material. The normalising heat treatment helps provide improved microstructural uniformity and is often specified where the project or end user requires normalised forged fittings rather than standard A105 material. In practical terms, A105N is generally selected when additional material control or compliance with a specific project requirement is needed.
ASTM A350 LF2 forged fittings are intended for low-temperature service. This grade is commonly used where piping systems are exposed to lower operating or ambient temperatures and where impact toughness becomes more important than with standard carbon steel grades. LF2 forged fittings are often specified for oil and gas, LNG-related, utility and process piping systems operating in colder environments.
